Aspen Winter Kid Friendly Activities

Aspen and Snowmass are a gigantic outdoor playground for the entire family.




All Access Snowmass

An “insider’s” edition of VIK, this fun, educational program gives kids (and their parents) a behind-the-scenes peek at life in a mountain town, featuring patrol dogs, snowmaking and much more. Children must be accompanied by an adult.


Family Fun at Aprés on the Bricks

Children of all ages will enjoy a variety of free activities, including face painters, balloon artists, dancers, a live DJ, après specials and more. and more. Snowmass’ Ice Age mascot, Snowy the Mammoth, stops by 2:30-3:30pm for photo ops and fun. Children must be accompanied by an adult.


First Tracks At Snowmass

Cruising through untouched powder or freshly groomed corduroy is a dream-come-true for skiers and boarders. The free Snowmass First Tracks program makes it possible, with the chance to be among the first on the mountain, taking the first run of the day with patrollers and/or instructors. Lift ticket and reservations required. Skiers/riders should be age 11+ with intermediate skills.


Family Day & Family Night at the Rec Center

Bring the whole family to the Snowmass Village Recreation Center for some off-the-slopes fun! On Thursdays and Saturdays, V.I.K.s and their families receive discounted rates to enjoy all of the Rec Center’s amenities, including outdoor swimming and skating, indoor climbing, basketball, fitness and more. Children must be accompanied by an adult.


Hot Air Ballooning

For families with older children, this early morning balloon adventure soars up and over Snowmass with spectacular mountain views, wildlife sightings, and a breathtaking experience your family will never forget.


Mountain Orientation Tour

Want to give your kids some freedom but are a little nervous about the vast terrain? Take a free mountain orientation tour to help everyone get their bearings.


Snow Tubing

The tubing center at Elk Camp includes four lift-served lanes of tubing excitement for adults and children.


Wildside with ACES

Join a Naturalist from the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) for a fun and informative presentation featuring live animals. Animal guests may include ACES’ resident Great Horned Owl, Boa Constrictor, Tarantula and more. All ages welcome.


Snowmass Cross Country Center

For a day off from ski boots, visit the Snowmass Cross Country Center, which offers access to more than 60 miles of trails and a central location to rent snowshoes, cross country and skate skis, ski sleds, and more. From snacks and gear, to lessons and gentle touring slopes amidst the spectacular winter scenery, this is an outing to remember for your family.


Ski Tour with a Naturalist

Drop in at the Wapiti Wildlife Center at the top of the Elk Camp Lift to ski a run with a naturalist and learn about our high-alpine environment. Tours are free, twice daily, to adults and kids aged seven and above.


Snowmobile Tours

Rev up and head out on a guided snowmobile tour into the gorgeous winter mountains with a trained guide. Multiple tour options are available. Young children not old enough for tours can hang out at the Treehouse Kids Adventure Center.

Snowshoe Tours with a Naturalist Aspen Center for Environmental Studies naturalists lead daily snowshoe tours deep into the heart of Snowmass’ forests, sharing information about wildlife and the mountain ecology.

Snowmass Village Recreation Center Over 18,000-square-feet of pure recreation awaits at the Snowmass Village Recreation Center. Families could spend an entire day exploring the four saline outdoor pools with a water slide and water features, the bouldering cave, climbing walls, skate park, weight room, and more. The Snowmass Recreation Center also hosts a variety of Summer Camps for kids at the facility as well.

Ullr Nights In honor of the Norse God of Snow — Ullr — Elk Camp is transformed into a nighttime winter wonderland. Guests can make a night of it, with classic winter activities, such as ice skating, sledding, guided snowshoe tours with ACES, snowbiking, snow tubing, and a visit to Ullr’s ghost ship. Enjoy an à la carte culinary celebration with live music, and top it off with s’mores and hot chocolate by the campfire. Snow tubing is available for one-hour sessions beginning at 5:30pm, 6:00pm, 6:30pm, 7:00pm and 7:30pm. Tickets required, reservations recommended


Wapiti Wildlife Center

At the top of the Elk Camp Lift, the Wapiti Wildlife Center offers the perfect break to warm up, explore the center and learn about the different animals living in the mountains around us. Open to public daily.
