Shelby
My name is Shelby and I recently moved to Steamboat this summer for a change of scenery
after having skied here many winters with my family. I am originally from Dallas, TX but spent some time
in the Midwest during my college years. Growing up, I was a lifelong competitive gymnast before I switched to cheerleading to eventually become a Worlds medalist and D1 college cheerleader at Kansas State. The gym was my second home
and eventually led to me joining the coaching staff where I worked as a gymnastics coach, camp
counselor, parents night out/birthday party host, and private lesson instructor for kids of all ages (3-14).
Not only was this one of my absolute favorite jobs, but it came easily to me and provided a ton of
babysitting referrals from families of athletes I’d coached in the Dallas area. During college, I continued
coaching at a gym in my college town while I was cheering and studying Accounting & Finance. I also helped families with afterschool care and date night babysitting in my free time for children ranging
from 6 months-13yrs.
Working with kids has always been something I’ve enjoyed since a young age, especially watching them
light up after learning a new skill, or discovering newfound confidence from tackling a tough challenge. I am big on giving positive encouragement, helping express creativity, and getting them off the screens
and moving around. This could involve fun arts & crafts, games, making healthy snacks, playing outside,
or ‘cleaning competitions’ that make chores fun.
When I’m not at my day job, you can find me traveling to new places, enjoying the great outdoors
(hiking, skiing etc.), or catching up with family and friends. I’m also working on picking up guitar and
sewing for cold icky weather days.
I’m super excited to be here and am looking forward to connecting and helping create an atmosphere
where children can feel comfortable to thrive and have fun..
